Fire Flow Calculator: Your Guide to Fire Protection Requirements
Need to calculate fire flow requirements for your building? Our Fire Flow Calculator helps you determine the necessary water flow rate for fire protection systems and ensures compliance with safety standards.
Understanding Fire Flow Requirements
Fire flow calculations are crucial for several reasons:
- Safety Compliance: Meet building codes
- System Design: Proper sprinkler sizing
- Water Supply: Adequate water pressure
- Risk Assessment: Fire hazard evaluation
- Insurance Requirements: Coverage compliance
How to Use the Fire Flow Calculator
- Select Building Type: Choose the building classification
- Enter Floor Area: Input the total floor area
- Enter Number of Floors: Input the total floors
- Select Occupancy Type: Choose the hazard level
- Select Sprinkler Type: Choose the system type
- Click Calculate: Get flow requirements
Fire Flow Calculation Formula
Q = C × A × √P
Required Flow Rate:
Qreq = Q × F × O × S
Where:
Q = Basic flow rate (GPM)
C = Coefficient (0.8-1.2)
A = Floor area (ft²)
P = Number of floors
F = Floor factor (1.0-1.5)
O = Occupancy factor (1.0-2.0)
S = Sprinkler factor (1.0-1.5)
Common Fire Flow Requirements
- Residential Buildings:
- Single Family: 500-750 GPM
- Multi-Family: 750-1000 GPM
- High-Rise: 1000-1500 GPM
- Commercial Buildings:
- Office: 1000-1500 GPM
- Retail: 1500-2000 GPM
- Restaurant: 2000-2500 GPM
- Industrial Buildings:
- Light Manufacturing: 2000-3000 GPM
- Heavy Manufacturing: 3000-5000 GPM
- Warehouse: 2500-4000 GPM
