If you are looking to update the flooring in your home, check out this short guide that will show you the most common floors seen in houses.

Common Floors In Houses

We’ll explain the different types of floors and point out the common types of flooring so that you can decide the best option for your house.

1. Parquet Floor

One of the world’s most common flooring types! Parquet flooring is beautiful, vibrant, and feels warm and comfortable to walk on.

The floor consists of solid wood and is both thicker and more substantial than many other floors. Thanks to its thickness, the floor has good durability and can be sanded several times.

A well-kept wooden floor lasts for about 50 years. Wood is sensitive to water, so be careful not to get it wet. Also, make sure to not scratch the floor with any furniture.

Using fabric or cork furniture feet covers can help to avoid scratches. This especially applies to furniture that is moved around the home, such as chairs.

The nice thing about parquet flooring is that if the floor is in bad condition, it is relatively easy to make brand new just by sanding.

Depending on whether you have oiled or varnished the floor, you can also freshen it up with a new coat.

2. Laminate Flooring

Laminate Flooring - Common Floors

Laminate flooring has an inner material that is based on wood, but often a surface layer and bottom layer in plastic.

The advantage of laminate flooring is that it is durable, which makes it a good floor for a family with small children or perhaps in the kitchen where things can be spilled more.

There is a large selection of laminate flooring, and you can choose everything from imitation wood to concrete imitations in all sorts of different colors.

It is worth noting that you can not sand, oil, or repaint laminate flooring. If you are considering laminate flooring, make sure to choose one of good quality.

3. Carpet

Carpet Floors

Many countries around the world install carpet throughout the entire home. In some places, carpet flooring can only be found in the bedroom.

Carpet flooring has a sound-absorbing effect, at the same time as it gives a cozy and comfortable feeling in a room.

If you have wooden floors at home, rugs are also an excellent way to protect the wooden floor from scratches and spills.

There is a wide variety of colors, materials, and sizes to choose from when it comes to carpet flooring.

Remember to check how to maintain the carpet, as washing and care instructions differ depending on the material.

Additionally, it is important to vacuum the carpet a few times a week to keep it clean from dust.

4. Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl floors are made of synthetic materials and are durable. This is one of the most common floors found in apartments.

Their resistance to moisture, scratches, and stains makes them very easy to clean. In other words, it is a more forgiving floor.

A popular variant of vinyl flooring is click flooring which is easier to lay on your own.

There are many different types of vinyl flooring, and it is recommended that you choose one of good quality so that it will last a long time.

5. Stone Floor

Stone Floor

Do you want a heated stone floor in the bathroom for a comfortable and luxurious spa feeling? Or maybe you want to lay a beautiful and easy-care floor in your hall?

Then stone is the perfect option. Few places in the home are exposed to as much dirt and gravel as the hall!

Stone is also perfect for earthy tones and wood so it can be a good complement to a home with elements of nature.

It is possible to sand stone floors, although the most common is to polish them if necessary.

The disadvantage of stone floors is that they are cold, so it is smart to choose a stone floor with underfloor heating if you are worried about the cold.
